Course Overview

This T Level qualification is a two year program split into 2 main components: the Core, which is assessed by external exams and covers subject areas such as business management and health and safety and an employer set project; and an Occupational Specialism which is assessed by synoptic assignment.

Within the Occupational Specialism students will cover four performance outcomes:

1) Optimise health and welfare of animals
2) Optimise animal environments to meet their needs
3) Apply techniques to influence positive animal behaviour
4) Provide information research on an animal to promote welfare and conservation.

Students can progress from studying the T-level into employment and/or onto University as they are designed to develop excellent employability skills as well as the academic skills required for higher education study.

Entry Requirements

Five GCSE’s at a grade 4 or above, including English, maths and science.

Course information

This programme allows for the study of a range of animals and provides the development of knowledge and understanding of animal behaviour, biology, nutrition, enclosure design, welfare and ethics and safe working practices within the animal industry.

2 years

This course will be delivered on site four days per week with a day left for independent study. When in College, students participate in a range of theory and practical lessons. There is also an extensive industry placement programme to undertake where learners have the opportunity to gain vital employability skills and network with local employers experiencing first hand the industries they are interested in progressing into.

Assessment takes place through the completion of examinations, synoptic assessment, homework and successful completion of industry placement.

T Level Agriculture, Environmental and Animal Care – Animal Management

You will complete a minimum of 9 weeks of external indsutry placement across the program of learning.

Level 3

Working in the animal industry can be highly rewarding but it requires hard work and dedication.

You will need to be comfortable with working outdoors in all weathers, be physically fit and be able to carry out routine husbandry tasks e.g. checking livestock out on our 400-acre estate, dog walking, cleaning out enclosures, preparing a range of animal feeds and working with ALL of our animals to provide the highest possible standard of care.

We have a strict dress code for working in our Animal Centre and, as such, you need to be prepared to follow instructions from all staff in order to maintain your own health, safety and welfare and that of our animals.
